About Us

As an amateur dramatic and operatic society dedicated to the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, we have performed at least one of the Savoy Operas almost every year at various theatres in the Ipswich area since before most of us were born!

We all love the enduring comedy and beautiful music they contain and the chance to tread the boards at Woodbridge’s Seckford Theatre each autumn. Although these operas were created towards the end of the Victorian era, the jokes and satire of Gilbert remain fresh today, enhanced by Sullivan’s glorious music. The G&S operas have inspired writers as diverse as Matt Groening (The Simpsons), Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton – the musical).

We rehearse year-round on Mondays at 7.30 p.m. The show cast rehearse for the annual theatre production in late summer and early autumn. Open Auditions for the show are usually held in April/May (see the home page for details). In spring and summer, we become a choir, learning a range of music from classical to rock and pop, ready for our charity concerts in spring and early summer.

New members are always welcome - you don’t need to commit to join immediately, just come to a few rehearsals for fun and see if you like us enough to stay! You don’t need to be able to read music to be a member but a little previous singing experience may help. We take our singing and acting seriously. We laugh a lot, too!

Can we help your charity?

If you work with a charity we'd be delighted to sing for you; all you have to do is find a venue and sell tickets.
